The International Chemical Investors Group - ICIG purchased both the Landen, Belgium, company and the facility of the company in Cork, Ireland, with the purpose of establishing them as the platform of their new cGMP Corden PharmaChem business.
Cork
Located on a 20-acre site in Cork, the company was originally established in 1974 as Irish Fher Laboratories, a subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim.
In 1992 the company was acquired by private investors and was renamed Irotec Laboratories. Development and manufacture of API’s continued to be the main activity but the direction of this was primarily focused towards the growing generic market worldwide. In addition to the generic market, a custom manufacturing service for production of advanced intermediates and API’s for innovator companies was also introduced. As a result of constant growth and development a new multipurpose cGMP manufacturing plant was designed in 1998 and was commissioned in 1999, doubling the total available capacity.
In March 1999 the company was acquired by Cambrex Corporation and was subsequently renamed Cambrex Cork Ltd. During the period 1999 to 2006 there was a continued focus on the growth of the twin pillars of the company operations, Generic API’s and Custom Development & Manufacturing with a resultant increase in customer & product base.

Landen
Located on a 10-acre site in Landen, Belgium, the company was originally established in 1976 as Continental Pharma, an independent family business primarily focusing on the production of fine chemicals and some pharmaceutical products.
In 1984 the company became a fully owned subsidiary of Monsanto and two years later, in 1986, it merged with Searle.
During this period, the company made important investments to meet national and international regulations regarding safety and environment, introduced a total quality management system and became a cGMP approved facility.
In 1993 the company was acquired by private investors and was renamed Conti B.P.C., the latter abbreviation standing for Bulk Pharmaceutical Compounds, which had become its core business over the years.
Major focus was laid on the development of new compounds to commercial scale and the company succeeded in obtaining the ISO 9002 certificate in 1994, became TGA approved in 1996 and FDA approved in 1998.
In March 2000 the company became a member of the Cambrex Group and was subsequently renamed Cambrex Profarmaco Landen nv in 2002. Between 2000 and 2006 the company upgraded its facilities and invested in health and environmental measures. These efforts culminated in obtaining ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certification.
The International Chemical Investors Group – ICIG purchased both the Landen, Belgium, company and the facility of our sister company in Cork, Ireland, with the purpose of establishing them as the platform of their new cGMP Corden PharmaChem business. Thus the company was renamed in October 2006 as Corden PharmaChem nv.
The company presently continues its upward trend by investing in a new finishing area and upgrading the R&D facilities and is continuously striving to become an even more important asset for the customers on the generic market.
